Fall Dance...Go Green!

With ice cream floats, a jungle waterfall, a 12-feet screen, and green all around, it was no wonder the students of Highlands Intermediate had a blast at this year’s annual Fall Dance!  This year’s theme was none other than, Go Green!  A cool jungle theme was mixed in, too, to make it fun and funky!  Students were able to dress up in green-tastic accessories like glow-in-the-dark jewelry and shutter shades, animal masks, and animal print bandanas!  All these items were sold at the Leadership Shop booth right outside the dance on the mauka lanai.  Inside, students busted moves, pumped their fists, and sang along to modern hits from Justin Bieber to Eminem.  Adding to the party mood, a huge 12-feet screen on the stage played all the hot music videos -- our first ever music video dance!  We all had a blast and with the funky green theme and awesome music and videos it sure was a dance to remember!

Highlands LLWS Homecoming Parade

"Hey batter, batter...Hey batter, batter...Hey batter, batter...SWING!"  On Wednesday, September 8, 2010, all of the students and teachers at Highlands Intermediate School gathered outside their classrooms with posters and banners, cameras in hand, high spirits and plenty of anticipation for the super fun and totally sporty parade that was coming their way!  What parade was that, you ask?  The Little League World Series Homecoming Parade here at Highlands Intermediate, of course!  It was to welcome back our very own LLWS U.S. Championship team team members #18 Tyler Kushima, #20 Dane Kaneshiro, and #17 Shiloh Baniaga!  We were so proud of our boys for representing Highlands Intermediate -- and all of Hawaii -- in the LLWS that we thought we would throw a super awesome parade.... just for them!

This was the second LLWS Homecoming Parade here at Highlands and it was better than ever!  With the Highlands Student Government kids leading the way carrying a beautiful banner to pump up the crowd, they were made a huge entrance!  Next, it was the boys themselves, riding along in two totally decked out "floats" driven by Mr. White (Student Activities Coordinator) and Mr. Anbe (Vice-Principal), waving and high fiving their pumped-up peers! Finally, their proud parents strolled along behind it all with a smiles that said, "That's my boy!"
It was an absolutely amazing day: golf cart floats, banners, posters, and lots of pride and spirit -- it was definitely the best Highlands LLWS Homecoming Parade yet! Great job guys!!!
