Highlands Talent Showcase '13

Congratulations to Daysin, Nathan, Joey, and Atreyu -- "Something Unique" for winning the Talent Show this year!  There were awesome performances by all with special shout outs to 2nd place winners -- The Rascals and 3rd place winner -- Zion Tupuola-Fetui!  You can relive all the great performances for yourself on OC16.  Great news is that The Rascals will be joining Something Unique -- that's 2 groups from Highlands! -- at the Brown Bags to Stardom state talent show competition on Sunday April 21 at the Hard Rock Cafe in Waikiki!  More information is available at http://www.brownbagstostardom.com/

Special thanks goes out to the judges who such a fantastic job evaluating all of the awesome performances: Mr. Johnny Kai (Brown Bags), Ms. Flannery (Make A Wish Foundation) Ms. Kealoha and Mr. Sevellino (DiverseArt).  Special shout-out goes to Ms. Madriaga and the Waipahu HS Glee Club for an electrifying performance to kick-off the event!  We were so happy to have you!  And once again, congratulations to "Something Unique" our new 2013 Highlands Talent Showcase winners!!!

   

  

  

Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt

Students were earching for Easter Eggs and also the Easter Bunny all lunch period during the Highlands Jr. Leo Club's Scavenger Hunt which took place on Thursday, March 28th, right before Good Friday and Easter. Winnowing the campus grounds for their next egg clue were three students working as a group from each team. All eight teams had to find three eggs with the clues they had gotten from a previous easter egg. Everyone rushed excitedly to find the next egg, and it's clue inside, hoping to secure first, second, or third place in the hunt for a chance to earn the most spirit points for their team! Each group also earned a goody bag consisting of three juice pouches, three pencils, and snacks after a long hunt that took most their lunchtime break. Great job to all of those who participated!

Leeward Middle School Soccer Champions!

Congratulations to both Highlands Soccer Teams -- Varsity & JV -- for taking 1st Place for Leeward Middle School Soccer League!!!  Great job to all the players and Coach Moix and Coach Fermin for a fantastic season!

Spring Breaker Scavenger Hunt

Get up, get moving, get jumping -- Spring is here!!!  To get you into the mood for the upcoming Spring Break vacation, the Leadership Class hosted a Spring Break Scavenger Hunt that started at the Cafeteria and later spread throughout the entire campus!  We had 4 participants per grade-level Team, 2 girls and 2 boys. They were given clues to find specific locations around school and to find a slip of paper at each location. These slips of paper had scenes that the participants had to act out while a Leadership student took photos of them for proof/evidence.  You saw them all over campus, running up, down, left, and right, getting to these places as fast possible to act out one of the 12 Spring Break scenes. You saw them surfing waves at the courts, playing lazer tag at the Aquaponics Farm, and so much more!  So after all oftheir hard work and participation and your cheering, the results of this year's first ever Spring Break Scavenger Hunt were:

Online Elections took place February 26 - 28 and the results were announced on March 1st, 2013.  Thanks to all the Highlands students who made their voices heard and voted for the candidate they thought would best help lead our school into the future.  Many of the races were razor close with some being decided by just a single vote -- yes, your vote did count, indeed!  Good luck to all the officers next year!!!
