Winter WonderDance Is..."Frozen"

Olaf, Anna, Elsa, Sven, Kristoff, Hans and Marshmallow welcomed the entire school to the Gym for one memorable and fun day before we headed off to a much deserved Christmas Break!  For just one magical day, the Dance and Promotions Committees transformed the Gym into Disney's newest holiday movie, "Frozen!"  Scattered about the icicles and snowflakes were a ton of events and activities for everyone like: 808 DJ's Video Dance, Instant Photo Booth, Tribal Tattoos, Takeshi the Magician, Balloon Productions, basketball @ the Courts, Candyland Store, Xmas Dance Store, tons of concessions, and a giant castle inflatable!  We couldn't have thought of a better to say goodbye to Q2 and 2013 than by getting "Frozen!" at this year's Winter WonderDance!

Xmas Teacher & Staff Appreciation Breakfast

On December 19, 2013, we had a first-ever Xmas Teacher & Staff Appreciation Breakfast in the Cafeteria!  The Highlands Student Governement wanted to thank the teachers and staff for working so hard to make Highlands such an awesome place for students to live and learn!  In addition to Starbucks coffee (thanks, Starbucks Waimalu!!!), the teachers had blueberry pancakes (thanks, Mr. Nakagawa & Mr. Routon!), yummy Portuguese sausage, fresh fruit, pastries, and several other delicious breakfast items.  The Student Government members also served the teachers making the experience even more special!  What more could a teacher ask for, you ask...well, we even had Santa (thanks, Mr. Holskil) and his elves make a special appearance to everyone's great surprise and amusement!!!  It felt so good seeing the teachers and staff so happy so close to the holidays...thank you Highlands teachers and staff members for everything you do for us!  And, please have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Xmas Grams!

On Wednesday, December 17, the Highlands Student Government set up the annual Christmas Gram! booth during both recess and lunch in the Library Courtyard!  They sold Xmas stuffed animals, mylar balloons, and other holiday items at a very reasonable price to all that stopped by. Students purchased items that would be delivered as a present to anyone on campus the following day.  Better yet, they could even become a "Secret Santa" and provide friends with a special holiday mystery to solve ;)  During the delivery in Homeroom the next day everyone was so anxious to see if Santa had them on his "Nice List!"  Everyone who received a Xmas Gram! was ever so happy to get an extra special surprise before the upcoming Christmas Break.  They were even more happy knowing that someone thought and cared about them during this most "wonderful time of the year."

Kendama Tournament

Kendama's took over Highlands Intermediate this year....next, they're taking over the world!  If you know anything about the wooden stick and ball tis that it is the hottest trend on campus of which the likes we haven't seen before, then you know someone had to do something about it!  The Victory Club in conjunction with All About the Goods, put together the first Highlands Intermediate Kendama Tournament on December 12, 2013 at the PE Courtyard.  35 contestants from the HIS Kendama Club took the "Fitdama" challenge emceed by none other than Mr. Ogata himself!  Mr. Ogata would call out a move and the contestants had 2 chances to nail it or else they were eliminated.  There could be only one and it took almost the entire lunch period to find out who would be HIS' first-ever Kendama Champion!  The person that would hold such prestige and honor would be Katta from Team Fantastic 4!  We certainly look forward to the next highly-anticipated Kendama Tournament to see if Katta will retain his crown or will it be snatched away by a worthy competitor???  We'll just have to practice, practice, practice until the next Kendama Tournament comes to Highlands!

Q2 Intramural -- Volleyball Challenge!

Congratulations to Team Hui Mana'o for winning this year's Q2 Intramural -- Volleyball Challenge!  Winners of the Q1 Intramural -- Dodgeball Mania! makes Hui Mana'o gives them a clean sweep of the first two intramurals of the year!  Will they be able to keep it all together and make a Triple Crown in Q3?  Only one way to find out....be there!  Congrats also to Q2 Intramural runners up, Team 'Ekahi!!!
