The Student Activities Fair attracted and informed students about the eight committees and a few clubs we have here at Highlands Intermediate. At their leisure during lunch period, students browse the various displays for each committee or club and sign up for the ones of their choosing. The always popular Dance and Spirit committees held the longest lines while Service, Athletics, Elections, Ecology, and the new 50th Anniversary committees held their own. The committees are really important to Highlands because they organize a lot of the activities we have here on campus throughout the year. Big thanks to the HIS Student Government and Leadership Class setup and ran the fair to much success and for doing such a great job!

Now usually you would think that an "assembly" would be a bunch of people talking but that's not how it was for Highlands Intermediate's Welcome Back Assembly '09. We had Sam Da Man and Kaleo from 102.7 Da Bomb as our emcees! We also had DJ Packo to come and blast the music the entire assembly! We gave away the best prizes ever: Blue Hawaii and Flip the Bird T-shirts, some awesome skateboard decks, and a completely amazing Flip The Bird jacket. Out of all the events that transpired my favorite thing was definitely the games! We had the new teachers to play a game where they get toilet-papered. We had a very loud and very hyped-up cheer competition between the 7th graders and the 8th graders which the 7th graders won, which kinda sucked for the 8th graders. And how could I forget to mention the best game ever -- Skateboard Olympics!!!! There were 8 teams of 8 people that had to do swimming motions to "swim" across the gym 8 times a la Michael Phelps. After that, Steve the magician put on a great show making a student disappear! Overall, it was a great way to welcome all the students back to school in style -- thanks to all who participated!!!!

Welcome Back Assembly Great Lunch Giveaway Booth October 12 & 13, 2009
This year's 7th and 8th graders showed their team spirit by turning out and entering the Welcome Back Assembly Great Lunch Giveaway Booth on Wednesday & Thursday, 10/12-13. It was held near the basketball courts, outside of classroom C1 during Lunch and each student entry earned their team 2 spirit points. At this year's lunch booth we were giving away awesome Blue Hawaii "Hawaii and Destroy" t-shirts, three 84 Skate skateboard decks, and also very hip Flip the Bird shirts...with even an exclusive Flip the Bird jacket alone worth over $100! The awesome music and great banners drew a big crowd that was successfully coordinated into a line by the Student Government and Leadership class. Everyone had a good time and participated in student activities... we just hope all future activities turn out to be just as fun as this one in the year to come ;)
