Our
1st Annual Random Acts of Kindness Week was a hit! There were smiles
all around as RAKW Cards were filled out in and outside of school. To
kick-it off, we held a lunch booth on TUE 5/26 to have people make a card that has something written that is a positive message.
Throughout the week Bingo year cards were being signed as each random
act of kindness was done. Also the cards were worth Spirit Points! The
main intention of this activity was to promote a positive school
environment, and make Highlamds a better place to learn. The activity
also helped the students in social skills. So as the year winded down,
the attitude of the school went up -- yay for us!!! Although Random
Acts of Kindness Week is over, just don't forget to smile today! :) Erin, Spirit Committee

Midweek Features Highlands StuCo Award
Highlands Displays Quality Leadership
May 27, 2015 at 11:58 am | www.midweek.com/highlands-displays-quality-leadership/
Pearl Highlands Intermediate has been awarded a 2015 National Gold Council of Excellence Award from National Association of Student Councils (NACS) for its community leadership, service and activities. NASC’s goal is to help student councils around the nation become more effective organizations. “We are proud of our student leaders and their commitment to school improvement,” stated principal Amy Martinson. “We applaud Mr. Eric White, the student activities coordinator, for his leadership.” In order to receive such recognition, Pearl Highlands Elementary’s student council had to uphold its written constitution, have regular meetings, conduct a democratic election process and more. The student council also had to demonstrate leadership training for its members, teachers and staff, and sponsor appreciation activities, student-recognition programs, school and community service projects, goal setting, financial planning and more. According to NASC, schools like Pearl Highlands that earn the excellence award displayed the highest levels of leadership. For more information, visit www.nasc.us/national-councils-of-excellence

StuCo End-of-Year Party
Give me a F! Give me a U! Give me a N! What's that spell? That's right -- fun! Loads of fun was had at the annual HIS StuCo End Of the Year Party at Farrell's Pearlridge!! There were lots of activities planned by our Student Governement officers and yeah, lots of yummy food! We played StuCo Trivia, received custom photo booklets hand-drawn by Peyten, and wrote nice little notes to each other to remember all the good times we had this year. We saw smiles and laughs all around the table when everyone read the funny and memorable recollections from the group and of course, when they saw their food coming. Dessert was the best - 30 different ice creams in one bowl with a whole lot of toppings on top! Even better, Mr. White paid for it ;) We sang happy birthday to our advisor, Mr. White, while laughing with him as he attempted to dance to "Jump On It". The event ended with a zany photo scavenger hunt as two groups raced around Pearlridge Uptown taking photos with unsuspecting Starbucks employees and event the manager at TJ Maxx!!! We all had such a memorable time...we couldn't think of a more fitting end to the best school year ever... Ashley, 8th Grade Treasurer

PTSA Awards Night
Congratulations to everyone who received an award this past Thursday at the PTSA Awards Night! Each team nominated their brightest, most-inspiring students in one of several categories. Some of the categories included: Team Leadership, Academic Persistence and Most Improved. It awesome to see around several hundred supportive families in the audience cheering on their students. We even had Hawaii State Senators, Representatives, and City Council Members take time off their busy schedules to come and recognize our latest achievement of becoming a 2015 National Gold Council of Excellence! Wow! What a great way to start winding down the year by individually recognizing students for their hard-work, growth and perseverance! (: Peyten, SG Treasurer

NASC Induction Ceremony & Inaugural StuCo Epic Water Balloon Battle
What a memorable time it was...when the torch of the 2014-2015 Highlands Student Council was passed on to incoming StuCo members. On May 19, 2015, the current student council hosted a get together during lunch to share their past experiences and advice to the incoming student council. During lunch, the councils were paired got to share a meal together while receiving speeches from the student activities coordinator, Mr. White, and the SG Secretary, Mica. Brand new this year, we created a new segment we dubbed: "Inaugural StuCo Epic Water Balloon Battle!" The title explains itself -- nuff said there. Well, the torch has been passed and we wish the 2015-16 Highlands Student Council all the best in the upcoming school year. Mireya, Assembly Committee
