Homeroom Representatives 25-26

Every Wednesday and Friday during Period 7, our campus comes alive with student leadership. This year, our 7th and 8th Grade Homeroom Representatives are officially back in action, meeting twice a week to map out the school year's biggest events—from energetic assemblies and intramurals to dances and community activities. Led by the Student Government team, these meetings are about much more than just planning parties. They serve as a vital sounding board for student feedback. Reps gather ideas, questions, and concerns directly from their peers and bring them to the table, ensuring student voices are directly shared with school administration. Through their hard work, these student leaders are keeping their classmates informed and actively shaping a better school environment. A big mahalo to all of our incredible Homeroom Representatives for making this school year one to remember!

Full Council 1

On Wednesday - November 14, the Highlands Student Council hosted the Homeroom Representatives for the very first Full Council meeting of the year! We have these meetings every semester, where all the Homeroom Reps share their concerns and ideas to improve the school. Everyone sits by teams and discusses 3 issues: student concerns, team concerns, and school life concerns. Homeroom Reps collect this data from their perspective homerooms and document them on the Full Council form provided the week before. Some of the ideas presented were very useful and will be shared with our Administration in the coming weeks. They’ll give us actionable results and hopefully will in turn improve our school. Overall, Full Council 1 was a success and we were able to make Highlands Intermediate an even better place to live and learn!

Full Council 2021

About 900 students attend Highlands Intermediate at any given moment. That’s almost a thousand students! Almost a thousand voices! Every year, Student Council needs to make sure that we hear every single one of them. We’re a little late this year because of COVID, but that’s okay. On December 10 of 2021, we gathered up all Homeroom Representatives into the already Christmas-decorated Student Council room for Full Council 1! With the help of our facilitators, conversation was bustling on each table and the discussion was lively. The HR Reps had already talked with their own homerooms about their concerns about the students, their team, and the schools. And after the conversation, they buckled down to organize their thoughts and present to the rest of us. By the end, we had a hefty pile of papers, and an extensive list of obstacles for us to tackle. Next step is for Student Council to choose the first thing to fix! And when Full Council 2 comes around, we’ll bring some good news! I’m looking forward to it!  Mia, Student Government Vice President
