Campus Beautification Day!

Highlands Intermediate School turned the big 5-0 this year, and to celebrate a half-century of educating the young minds of Pearl City, the HIS PTSA and Student Government decided to hold a Campus Beautification Day.  The cleanup was from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 19 at various spots around campus. Volunteers helped to spruce up restrooms, locker rooms, repaint green trim on buildings, repaint lines in the parking lot and brand the school with its new mascot and logo, the Colts.

Besides HIS students, faculty and staff, students from Pearl City High School’s Key Club,French Club,Anime/FilAm Club, Victory Club and even the girls varsity basketball team participated in our beautification.  Also, churches and community groups included, among others, folks from the First Baptist Church Pearl City, Grace Bible Church, the Pearl City Lions Club, the Pearl City Community Association, Boy Scout Pack 326, Girl Scout Troop 1039, the Senior Band Club and the Manawa Elua Band, which also entertained the volunteers during lunch.

Businesses participated in the event as well by way of volunteers and/or donations. They include McDonald’s Aiea,Starbucks Pearl City,AES Hawaii,Target Kapolei,Cookie Corner Downtown Pearlridge, Bernardo’s Painting, Glidden Professional Paint Center and Sherwin-Williams Co.  Special thanks go out to Pearl City Shopping Center for its generous donation to the school, and to HIS alumnus Mark Char of Handyman Sent By the Lord for his professional services and assistance in obtaining much-needed supplies for the event.

On behalf of the 1,000 students, faculty, staff and the PTSA, a big, big mahalo to all!
