Have you ever had that one teacher that has done so much for you and you really wanted to return the favor? Don’t worry -- Student Council has your back! On May 8th, 2015, we hosted a luau-themed teacher break for all our hard working teachers and staff here at Highlands Intermediate. Even with an earlier start time this year, we had teachers lining up outside around the corner ready to get their eat on! As soon as the clock struck 7:15 am the breakfast began. The teachers were greeted with leis, Teacher & Staff Appreciation Booklets written by their very own students, they entered a raffle to win luau-themed prizes, a rose for Mother’s Day and mile-wide smiles from all of us. After that, the teachers hopped in line to beat Mrs. Morihara to the infamous Big City Diner fried rice (since she ate the last bit of it at the Xmas Breakfast). Besides the fried rice, we had all sorts of food. We had iHop pancakes, Pancakes and Waffle House scrambled eggs, sausages, lomi lomi salmon, kalua pig, assorted fruit, Starbucks coffee, juice, and much much more. Once the teachers found a seat they were inundated with student minglers who got to hang out and talk story. And get this, we had two live student performances for our special guests! Kuahiwi, Shayla and Shaylnn were kind enough to share 5 amazing hulas! The annual breakfast was a smash success thanks to the Highlands Student Council and our amazing sponsors: Starbucks Waikele, Ihop Pearl City, and Pancakes and Waffles. If you’re reading this as a teacher who didn’t go to the breakfast heres a tip: don’t miss the next one ;) Jalisa, SG Vice-President
