Spirit Week 2018 "Aloha Friday"

For our final Spirit Week Day -- Aloha Friday -- the Spirit Committee thought it appropriate to give some Aloha right back… straight to Puna.  Puna is a city on the Big Island that was run over with lava spewing from Kilauea and they were devastated! To help them out, they decided to conduct a Penny Race amongst the teams to raise as much money as possible to help the people of Puna get back on their feet again!  The Penny Race works by teams having a collection jar to put coins into (+ points for their team)... students can sabotage the other team by putting dollar bills into the collections jars (- points for the team). It turns into a pretty choatic scene pretty quickly, especially with all the yelling, distracting, and jostling for position. So, right after the lunch bell rang, students lined up outside of the Cafeteria.  Teachers were rattling their team’s collection jar and screaming for coins from their students. This event was very competitive and fun for both teachers and students with the benefit (over $1,000!!!) going to a great cause! Lauren, SG President
