HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
At Highlands Intermediate School on Friday, staff held a special assembly then students let loose at a fun run. The two-pronged event was a fundraiser for seventh-grader Ally Tamayose, who’s battling cancer. “I found out I had osteosarcoma in January of 2018. So I’ve been in treatment for over a year now,” she said. Ally used to play soccer. Now the 13-year-old's life revolves around chemotherapy and bone scans. Highlands Intermediate held the fundraiser to help the Tamayoses pay for a trip to Los Angeles, where Ally will undergo surgery. “We’re hopeful that this treatment is going to work, and that she comes home and continues chemotherapy. From there, we’ll see how it goes,” said her father, Tory. Ally used to love to run. On Friday, leaning on crutches, she watched her classmates run for her. Ally’s classmates let her know they’re fighting for their friend and her family. The school presented the Tamayoses with a check for $14,850.84.
