Christmas Kindness Week 2019

During Christmas Kindness Week 2019 we all chipped in to make Highlands a better place to live and learn! Small acts of kindness were no stranger to us as we started to spread the Christmas Spirit all across campus! StuCo Christmas Bonding 2019: Gingerbread House Challenge!

The HIS Student Council sure is competitive! With the HIS Student Council's annual Christmas Bonding came many fun activities, one of which being a Gingerbread House Competition! Everybody got into teams of 6 and gathered the ingredients for making their houses. Such ingredients were graham crackers, frosting, assortments of candies, and lots of tin foil to make sure the room stayed relatively clean. Every team began with the same ingredients, an idea, and 15 minutes to build. Some teams went with winter wonderland-y houses, decorated with white frosting as snow and candy canes as gates. Meanwhile, others went with large constructions decorated with frosting and sprinkles decorating the exterior. After 15 minutes, Mr. White judged the houses one by one to decide who would be the winner of the contest. This competition allowed each team to have fun building houses and utilizing teamwork. StuCo Christmas Bonding 2019: Secret Santa!

Secret Santa - we couldn’t think of a better way to spread joy and cheer on a chilly day in December?! A week prior to the actual event, everyone filled out a card that will be pulled by another Student Council member at random. This would determine who your Secret Santa will be. That card had information like their favorite foods, color, allergies, and even their close friends! During the event, the gifts were given and their Secret Santa got revealed to everyone’s surprise! Excitement filled the entire StuCo Room as we opened the gifts and found out who gave who what. Not just excitement, but also shock! People thought they knew who their Secret Santa, but was shocked when it turns out, it was someone they never suspected! What an amazing activity it was to spread some holiday cheer and also reinforce the bonds we have already been building throughout this already awesome year… Joulian, SG Vice-President

Christmas Teacher Appreciation Breakfast 2019

Dancing Christmas Trees and Christmas Carolers entertained the teachers as they were treated to breakfast on Friday 12/13/19 @ Cafeteria. As Christmas approached Student Council planned an activity to celebrate our awesome teachers & staff and show them how much we appreciate them. What better way to do it than with a Christmas breakfast hosted by our very own Pearl City Starbucks and iHop!!! At 7:20 am teachers lined up down the Cafeteria Lanai in order to get into Santa's Workshop... The tables were filled with pancakes, coffee, eggs, and all kinds of sweet treats. Ryder and Teya sang Christmas carols for all the teachers eating. We also had students dance on the stage wearing christmas outfits and mingling with our very special guests. Then, as a special surprise we had a surprise visit by none other than the big man himself - Santa Claus! This breakfast was so memorable and great way to thank all of our teachers & staff members for the amazing job at HIS: "The Most Magical School on Earth!" Merry Christmas, all... Q2 Intramural: Volleyball

AND THE WINNERS ARE TEAM HUI MANA’O! Q2 Intramural: Volleyball was one intense competition between all teams - everyone did an amazing job and everyone played their guts out. YES! Q2 Intramural: Volleyball was one rollercoaster with so many close games going all the way to the last point.    We’d like to give shout-outs to Ms. Moore and Mr. Karwiel for coming out everyday to help us setup and referee all the matches!!! Highlands Hunger Games 7: "This Ain't No Fairytale!"

This Highlands Hunger Games 7, “This Ain’t No Fairytale,” was the best Hunger Games yet! The students were reaped and posted up on the bulletin boards 2 weeks before the competition.  Students gathered around and fought to see who the “lucky” students that were chosen or “reaped” just like the actual Hunger Games. Students had the opportunity to switch with other willing students from their team in what was called Volunteer Day. When the Tributes List was finalized then the training could begin. Before you knew it, the big day approached quickly…. All of the students were very excited and nervous to see who would be this year’s Highlands Hunger Games Champions! There were Disney-themed walls placed around the battlefield for the Tributes to hide behind. In the center of the field was the Cornucopia that held the weapons and ammo. At the start of each round, students ran towards the Cornucopia in order to grab a weapon, while some stayed back and hid. You could see all the strategy and all the alliances made within just a few seconds - how exciting?!? Students were eliminated for a couple reasons: stepping out of the playing field, getting hit with a bolt or grenade, or getting their flag pulled. Adding to the excitement, parachutes were released into the field of play every few minutes and Tributes could grab them to earn even more spirit points for their team. The last round was the teacher round, the one we were all waiting for! The teachers played for their team and it was the most entertaining round yet!
