National Student Leadership Week 2019 "Just Don't Do It" Anti-Vaping Campaign

National Student Leadership Week is a time that's dedicated to student leaders making a difference! Our Highlands Student Government used this week to create an Anti-Vaping Campaign in our school because they saw vaping as the #1 biggest threat to students this year. This was a result of a student survey created to find out what the biggest problems facing our student body were. The menace of vaping turned out to be the biggest concern by far and we decided to put a plan into action! First, we did a presentation to the teachers and staff during the weekly Faculty Meeting to inform them on the increasing problem of our youths' vaping problem. We also created an Anti-Vaping PSA which debuted at the Highlands Talent Show 2019 in front of all 1,000 students, teachers, staff, and special community guests which was followed up by Student Government Vice-President, Thalia Perpignon's impassioned speech to “just don’t do it -- not even once!”  It is our hope that all students listen to the message and heed the advice of not only our Student Government, but also scientist, doctors and… common sense!
