Valentine's Day King & Queens

How sweet it is, Highlands! This year’s Valentine’s Day Kings and Queens were voted on by all the Homerooms.  Winners were chosen by the couples that got the most overall votes by all the students in each Homeroom. Since this year Valentine’s Day Dance was canceled due to a violent storm, this year’s kings and queens were crowned in the Student Council Room during Homeroom. Winners were announced over the intercom and the kings and queens received their crowns, candy, and bouquets!  Congratulations to the Valentine’s Day Kings and Queens 2018! Valentine's Day Dance 2016 "High School Musical"

Are you ready for the most romantic holiday of the year? Well, we certainly were and our whole school came out in force with red, pink and white! The entire Highlands campus was filled with hearts and love, Cupids and fluffy clouds, roses and all things sweet! That’s right, it’s time for the Valentine’s Day Dance “High School Musical!” where everyone -- teachers, staff and students -- could enjoy the “holiday of love” in a super fun fashion. This event took place on Thursday 2/11/16 at Lunch in the P.E courtyard. There were tons of Valentine’s/HSM themed activites: HSM Polaroid Booth, Teachers Dunk Booth, Balloon Productions, Basketball for Teddy Bears, Cupid’s Arrow game, and lastly the Voting Booth for the Valentine’s Kings and Queens.  All the events surrounded the main Valentine’s Dance Canopy student DJ’d by our very own, DJ Lumpia! She played all the best jams until the final song…  But, it was all over we made the announcement that everyone was waiting for — who would be this year’s Valentine’s Kings & Queens, nominated in Homeroom and voted on at the Valentine’s Day Dance.  Congratulations to this year’s Valentine’s Day Kings & Queens (7th — Sachi and Aiden | 8th — Allyson and Reily | Teachers — Mr. and Mrs. Karwiel). We couldn’t think of a better way to get ready for the upcoming Valentine’s Weekend that than this! Laura, Dance Committee Chair

Valentine's Dance 2015 "The Fault In Our Stars"

Have you ever read or seen "The Fault in Our Stars?"  Well, this smash teen movie/book's colors swept over the P.E. Courtyard like a black and blue tidal wave during an extended lunch period on February 12, 2015.  The themed colors sky blue, white, and black were strikingly evident in all the elaborate dance decorations to the uniform dress down with all the students.  We had 45 minutes of fantastic music, an all-star teacher dunking booth, basketball hoops for charity, a Valentine King and Queen of the Dance voting booth, a TFIOS balloon maker, a TFIOS archery game, Valentine's Store, a TFIOS Photo Wall (where students could use their smart phones for free and unlimited pics!), a bouncy house, and it was also the kick-off of the annual Amazing Penny Race (spirit point competition and fundraiser for the Hawaii Make-A-Wish Foundation)!  And don't forget about the real reason why everyone was there -- the GIANT TFIOS Valentine's Dance Canopy hosted by our very own DJ Mica!   At the teacher dunking booth, you got three chances for a dollar, to dunk a teacher as a fundraiser for the 8th Grade Class. The teachers that got dunked were Mr.Mathakul, Mrs.Nakagawa, Mr.Armstrong, Mr.Laskowsky, Mr.Karwiel, Mrs.Rosera, and Mr.Fujii!  As a reward, all students in the vicinity were soaked with volleys of water balloons and water cannons!  From the nominations in HR to the voting at the dance, the 7th grade King and Queen was Kaeo and Jenna! The 8th Grade King and Queen was Micah and Saige.  As it turned out, "The Fault in Our Stars" Valentine's Day Dance was memorable as it was sweet.  Mireya -- Assembly Committee Chairperson
