Secondary Student Conference 2008
December 4-6, 2008
Desiree Aila, 8th grade President, represented HIS at this year's Secondary Student Conference (SSC) held at the State Capitol Building from December 4-6. The SSC is to provide secondary school students the opportunity to identify, discuss and arrive at sufficient solutions to major youth problems, with emphasis on school problems that require the attention and collaboration of Hawaii's youth, the Department of Education and the Hawaii State Legislature. The theme for this year's conference was "Change Is The Only Constant." To prepare for this important event, Desiree, along with the rest of the Leeward representatives met up on weekends at Kapolei High School to work on their resolutions. The resolutions brought forth during this student-led conference will eventually be presented to the House of Representatives during an actual session and will be through the legislative process.
