If last year's theme was "Rock'n!" then we had to up it one better. With that being said the theme for the 2008-09 school year as chosen by the HIS student council is "Always Rock'n!" That's just what we do whether is student activities or the activities in the classroom -- we rock! To make sure the entire school understood our theme we decided to throw a huge Highlands Welcome Back Assembly emcee'd by none other than Sam the Man and Kaleo of 102.7 Da Bomb FM!
Sam and Kaleo let all of Pearl City know that Highlands was in da house and the house was indeed rock'n! The gave away tons of free Blue Hawaii Surf gear to the students who signed up earlier in the week during the SG lunch activity booth and even gave away a Blue Hawaii surfboard as the grand prize!!! The spirit competitions were a blast with teams vs. teams and eventually grade level vs. grade level battling it out for the first spirit points of the year. The 8th graders overpowered the 7th graders in the class cheer but the 7th grade got revenge in the dance battle that ensued.
What a way to kick off the new year and we all look forward to the good times to come...
