Last Day of School!: Farewell Assembly & Highlands Ho'olaule'a

This year's Highlands Ho'olaule'a and Farewell Assembly created both unforgettable and bittersweet memories as we said goodbye to two beloved faculty members who retired at the end of this year.  Mrs. Maeshiro and Mrs. Chan will both be missed for their dedication and all their hard work to make Highlands Intermediate such a great place to live and learn! Our very own Highlands Lion Dance club payed tribute to them with a outstanding performance worthy of their memory.

The transition to fun and excitement happened with the start of the annual student teacher vs. student dodgeball and basketball game.  Unbelievably, the students took the dodgeball match 3-0! and the teachers regained their dignity by trouncing the students in basketball ;)  Ashley Ebia, Highlands very own Talent Showcase winner, retook the stage where she had won it all a few months earlier and wowed the crowd with her award-winning dance routine from Brown Bags to Stardom.  Not to be outdone, Samantha Deguzman got a rousing ovation with her rendition of "I Will Always Love You."

After lunch the students filed back to the gym for the annual Highlands Ho'olaule'a with many memorable performances by the combined talents of the ukulele, chorus and hula classes.  The final performance of "Lean On Me" by the chorus class got everyone up and out of their seats for one last time as it was time to say goodbye to the 2011-12 school year and all the great memories we had!
