Student Leadership Conference 2019

“A leader is one who knows the way, and shows the way.” James Maxwell.  SLC, or Student Leadership Conference, is an event where student leaders from all of the islands come together to learn leadership from the Hawai’i State Student Council.  This 2 day - 1 night event was held at the Hawai’i Convention Center in downtown Honolulu.  Once we got there we were shocked and amazed at the greeting our HSSC hosts gave us that day from the moment we step off the bus to our sad/happy goodbyes on the last  day!  Everyone was laughing, smiling, and enjoying the enthusiasm and excitement that is SLC!  Throughout the days we were learning the ways of leadership through General Sessions (special guest was Mr. Kevin Wazner!!!)  and Breakout Sessions run by our HSSC facilitators. Our night time bonding activity was out-of-this-world awesome! We spent the late afternoon into the night at Germaine’s Luau, oceanside!!!  We got to enjoy all kinds of Polynesian singing and dancing which was highlighted by an amazing fire knife dance at the very end!  We even got to have a dance party in the sand and participate in over a dozen other activities like night beach volleyball, Mobile Gamer Guys, shaved ice and tons more... The final day’s highlight was called Color Olympics and we had so much fun competing against all the other teams - it was loud, it was ruckus, it was team bonding at it’s finest!!!  In the end, we had so much fun at SLC 2019 and it was the best of times for all… we will never forget it ;)  Brayden, Assembly Committee
