Highlands Haunted House 11: Guides, Actors, Special FX!

October is almost here and Halloween is fast approaching! To get everyone in the "spirit" and to continue this special tradition here at Highlands, we spent several weeks putting together our annual Highlands Haunted House. This year marked our 11th event and it was a banger! Student Council ran the Highlands Haunted House 11 for 1 whole week right before Halloween. Each Student Council member got to chose their role as either an Actor, Special FX or Guide. Guests were grouped into fours in the order of either Dwarf, Barbarian, Elf, or Wizard characters. The way ahead was dark and thankfully our Guides were clever enough to bring "torches" to help guide their groups safely through the haunt. Each character was called upon to use their special abilities in order to conquer each challenge presented to the group until they ultimately found themselves face to face with Varag the Terrible! Now trapped, the group had to use everything they had in order to slay the foul beast and his dark minions. Huge thanks to our amazing Actors, Guides, and Special FX crew for making our haunt interactive, interesting, and oh so memorable! Highlands Haunted House 11 "HeroQuest!"

Do you love being scared? Well, we have just the event for you! Our long-awaited Highlands Haunted House 11: HeroQuest! will provide all the scares, thrills and screams you’ve been wanting since our last haunted house! We are calling all heroes for a quest to venture into Varag’s vast, dark dungeon and defeat the evil menace that has plagued the land for far too long! Your task is simple: defeat Varag. But first, you must gather four brave heroes to go on your adventure with you! You’ll need a Dwarf. Second, Barbarian. Third, Elf and last, a Wizard. Luckily you will be guided by a skilled Dungeon Master who will keep you safe in the dreaded dungeons that lie ahead. Will you be able to defeat Varag and become a Legend?! Nearly 600 students, teachers and staff members braved this year's HH5: "The Thing That Should Not Be!" It takes a little army to pull off a haunt like this and I'd like to personally thank all 33 HH5 crew members for putting on our best haunt yet!  As Guides, Cult Members, Shadows, Ghosts, Tentacle Operators, Animatronic Operators, Coffin Shakers, Airzooka and Air Cannon specialists -- job well done! Highlands Haunted House 5 Best Scares

Let’s set the scene…. The instant you step into the haunted house students scream and jump back as they encounter the burning Witch from the finale of last year’s haunt...the one you previously escaped from... the one that is here, now, for YOU!!! . You want to immediately run away but you can’t -- you have no choice but to go through the entire haunt, in the dark, with only your Guide to lead the way. You scramble below the witches’ lair into the sewers and further into the catacombs to get away! It is then you stumble upon a ritual sacrifice -- a young, innocent girl screaming for help! Could this be the old Witch’s daughter? You have no time to think... You hurry past coffins shaking, pleading you for help, and then... the Shadows come.  They just appear out of seemingly nowhere, just standing, watching, waiting, whispering... And finally, after you’ve made it this far, you see the cave entrance only to encounter “The Thing That Should Not Be!”, the great Cthulhu!!! His tentacles flail and lash out at you as you try to escape to the tunnel on the other side of the cliff, to safety, to school, to our beloved Highlands Intermediate!
