Highlands Hunger Games 5: "War of Justice!"

The War of Justice and the Highlands Hunger Games collided as a mad battle between the 7 Highlands teams and for spirit points and eternal glory! On November 22, 2017, was our annual -- and definitely the best yet -- Highlands Hunger Games 5: “War of Justice!” What better way to start Hunger Games than hearing local talent sing our anthems with their beautiful voices? Graciously singing the National Anthem, Callie Ivy, and singing Hawaii Pono’i, was Keilani Aea-Purnell. We also want to thank our amazing emcee, Mr. Karwiel for delivering so much enthusiasm to the crowd, and help keep the assembly running smoothly. And finally, the Highlands cheerleader’s energy really set the mood and showed lots of Colt spirit! For our 5th time running this exhilarating assembly, we used the usual grenades, crossbows, sponsor parachutes, velcro vests, and goggles, but we added a whole lot of new gear: the 15 shot Stratobow and flag football belts! All 7 Highlands Districts showed their pride with flags, posters, and war paint! There were 6 Hunger Games rounds and 2 Tributes from each District began at their District’s icon equidistantly apart from the Cornucopia… When the countdown hit zero, adrenaline rushed as all 14 Tributes desperately ran to the Cornucorpia or hid and waited the carnage out. In addition to all the chaos on the ground, Sponsors shot 5 parachutes, 1 per minute, into the area; each parachute = 25 spirit points! The winner -- the sole survivor -- of each round received 100 spirit points, or after 5 minutes, the points were split between the survivors. This year, District B -- Hui Mana’o took the prize for most spirit points with 250!! Fall Dance 2017 "Heroes Unite!" Photo Booth

Ready, Set, Shoot! Tons of pictures were taken at the Fall Dance 2017 “Heroes Unite” Photo Booth. Kids laughed at the all of the funny photos and hammed it up for maximum laughs! Thanks to Jenna and Caleb from the Assembly Committee for this awesome activity! The setup gag props, superhero costumes and accessories and even had a nice super hero backdrop to boot!  Hordes of kids crowded the line and waited to make even more funny memories with their friends...memories to last a lifetime ;)   Aubrey, StuCo Historian

Fall Dance 2017 "Heroes Unite!"

With Q1 coming to a close, the students of Highlands Intermediate School prepared themselves for a thrilling Fall activity! Our very own cafeteria was transformed into Gotham city and was filled with glow-in-the-dark, Justice League themed decorations and games, celebrating our school’s theme this year! Students surrounded the DJ in the dark, glow and blinky lights were everywhere! Or, the went out on the Lanai to enjoy a quick snack or play a Justice League themed game. Inside the cafeteria there was the Super Glow Store, Song Request & Shout-Out Booth and Green Lantern Glow Pong. Outside included The Flash Instant Photo Booth, Green Arrow Gotcha, Super Duper Face Painting Booth, The Black Market, and the infamous Arkham Asylum where students and teachers alike got to get arrested and locked up. Welcome Back Assembly 2017 "Justice League Unite!"

When you were younger have you ever imagined yourself being one of those super cool heros in movies and tv shows??  Well, now you can!  This year’s Welcome Back Assembly 2017 “Highlands Unite!”, you all were able to be the heroes of the school!  This year, the Highlands Student Council members transformed the gym into Superman’s Metropolis and heroes from near and far gathered for exciting entertainment and games!  I know the 8th graders didn’t get to see the WBA last year, but I definitely think that this was an awesome experience and it made up for what we missed last year!  With our awesome DJ, Jadee, pumping up the audience with fun songs, we had tons of games and activities going on like the Wonder Woman Lasso Relay, The Flash Tic-Tac-Toe Relay Race, Aquaman Relay Race, Superman’s Frozen T-Shirt Contest for the teachers and a lot more...  We even had special guests, 808 Viral to show us that we can all be local kine super heroes!!!  After all of the events, it appears Team Laulea has taken the lead with the most amount of spirit points!  I wonder, though, if they will stay in the lead forever or if another team’s gonna steal the first place spot?!?!  The WBA 17 was an awesome way to kick off the 2017-18 school year and it makes me wonder what other amazing events we’ll have throughout the year....  Skyla, SG Vice President
