Highlands Hunger Games 5: "War of Justice!"

The War of Justice and the Highlands Hunger Games collided as a mad battle between the 7 Highlands teams and for spirit points and eternal glory! On November 22, 2017, was our annual -- and definitely the best yet -- Highlands Hunger Games 5: “War of Justice!” What better way to start Hunger Games than hearing local talent sing our anthems with their beautiful voices? Graciously singing the National Anthem, Callie Ivy, and singing Hawaii Pono’i, was Keilani Aea-Purnell. We also want to thank our amazing emcee, Mr. Karwiel for delivering so much enthusiasm to the crowd, and help keep the assembly running smoothly. And finally, the Highlands cheerleader’s energy really set the mood and showed lots of Colt spirit! For our 5th time running this exhilarating assembly, we used the usual grenades, crossbows, sponsor parachutes, velcro vests, and goggles, but we added a whole lot of new gear: the 15 shot Stratobow and flag football belts! All 7 Highlands Districts showed their pride with flags, posters, and war paint! There were 6 Hunger Games rounds and 2 Tributes from each District began at their District’s icon equidistantly apart from the Cornucopia… When the countdown hit zero, adrenaline rushed as all 14 Tributes desperately ran to the Cornucorpia or hid and waited the carnage out. In addition to all the chaos on the ground, Sponsors shot 5 parachutes, 1 per minute, into the area; each parachute = 25 spirit points! The winner -- the sole survivor -- of each round received 100 spirit points, or after 5 minutes, the points were split between the survivors. This year, District B -- Hui Mana’o took the prize for most spirit points with 250!! Highlands Hunger Games 4 Training Centers

As you walk in the Student Government room, all around you, you see weapons of mass destruction: crossbows, grenades, magical wands, and the ultimate -- the Megabow!!! Students honed their skills in locking, loading and aiming their weapons. Arrows flew, grenades were thrown, and wands clashed! It was jam packed in there with 70 tributes in the Student Council Room! Everyone had a blast and it really payed off in during our annual Hunger Games event!  It was really anyone's game and everyone wanted to win their round for their team. “May Magic be ever in your favor. Highlands Hunger Games 3: The Rebel Games

The Hunger Games returned to Highlands for the third year in a row on November 25, 2015!!!  But, this year we changed the Hunger Games to make it one of the absolute BEST events Highlands has ever had.  This year, we combined the Star Wars and Hunger Games worlds to create one event to be known as “Highlands Hunger Games 3: The Rebel Games”!!!  We kicked off the Games this year with awesome performances by Princeton, Shaylana, and the HIS Cheerleaders!!!  Right after that, came the Parade of Tributes with the anxious Tributes hyping up the crowd before their competition.  In this year’s Hunger Games, there were 5 rounds as well as a special teacher round!!!  In these rounds, the Tributes needed to use their speed, strategy, and agility to be the last man standing after 5 minutes of intense competition.  They could choose to use crossbows, grenades, or the newest edition... lightsabers!!!  In addition to winning each round, Tributes could also earn Spirit Points by securing Parachutes sent in by sponsors throughout the Games!!!  After an awesome event, only one team could prevail and that team was...TEAM HUI MANA’O!!!  Better luck to all the other teams next year at Highlands Hunger Games 4!!!  Cade, SG President
