PCHS Pep Rally 2019

Ready… Set … GO to the PCHS Pep Rally 8th Graders! And so we did. The Class of 2023 had a pep rally for all the fall sports they would be able to sign-up and participate in at Pearl City High School. Alumni of Highlands that excelled in their certain sports gave a presentation to the attentive students that were eager to sign-up for these activities. Some of the sports included were Air Riflery, Tennis, Cross Country, Football, Basketball, Cheerleading, Wrestling and more. The coaches went more in depth about their respective sport and soon after presentations were complete, the wave of students rushed to sign-up to the sports their were interested in. Overall, a success!  Thalia, SG Vice-President

Super Smash Bros Nintendo Switch Tournament 2019

A..  B.. A..  B.. LEFT RIGHT  UP DOWN START. The 1st ever Highlands Intermediate video game tournament was amazing. Students who prefer video games over sports had a time to shine in this new concept that allows student to actually play video games in school. Just like our quarterly intramurals, representatives from all teams battled it out in a game of Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo Switch. The crowd that showed up was HUGE and the Student Council room was packed with people who wanted to watch some video games during their lunch break. Everyday, 8 participants from each team would play in a bracket to determine the champion for that team. In the end when all 7 champions were decided, and while all players who participated showed excellency at the game, the Super Smash Bros School Champion was Adrian from Hui Mana’o with an astounding win over all the other champions. That’s not all, however, as our teachers were joined in on the fun. Believe it or not, teachers actually play video games too! We had an amazing victory from our HIS Band Director, Mr. Lim,  who showed excellent prowess at the game. As our final days of the tournament began it was clear to see how amazing an experience not only the players had but the spectators as well! We set the groundwork for future video game events in schools. For now, we hope to run a video game tournament every quarter to get the same excitement from 8th graders and new 7th graders and maybe even inspire tournaments like this for other schools. Video games are an area that is growing especially in the younger generation. They have fun playing, so why not incorporate them into student activities and give them a rather new outlet for having fun in school?!? In closing, we'd like to thank our sponsor Mobile Gamer Guys for providing guidance and support in our first ever Super Smash Tournament! Chase, 8th Grade President

Highlands Intermediate Student Council Induction Ceremony 2019

Now your final award goes to…us! The Highlands Intermediate Student Council Induction Ceremony 2019 was a day to remember! This annual event was held at the Pa’ina Room at David Buster’s in downtown Honolulu. Everyone, parents and students, came in with such excitement and wonder! Our special guest this year was Representative Takayama, StuCo President 17-18 Bianca Tamayo, and StuCo President 16-17, Noelani “Dance Machine” Tugaoen! Today was a day  where the torch was passed from the current HIS Student Council to the incoming one. The candle lighting ceremony symbolized our commitment to 4 pillars of National Student Council: Service, Leadership, Voice and Engagement. After the ceremony and seriousness -- it was time eat and play games!!! The Student Council Induction Ceremony was so memorable as it was meaningful -- here’s to passing on the legacy and perpetuating awesomeness! Keziah, SG Treasurer

PCHES Reading Buddies Finale 2019

PCHES Reading Buddies Finale was a moment to remember! The HIS Student Council members for the year 2018-19 walked to PCHES during lunch to read to the 2nd graders for the last time of the year… After 6 memorable sessions together, it was so emotional at the end as we had to say goodbye to our little buddies and we will miss them so very much! They too were so sad to see us go and made us all cards saying goodbye It is our hope to see them in the future and we wish them all the best in finishing out 2nd Grade in style ;)  Liana, StuCo Historian
