Highlands Q3 eSport was a super “smash” hit this year! 7 teams with over a hundred competitors produced 7 champions who all fought for the Super Smash Championship Belt along with a $50 GameStop gift card and 250 spirit points. Everyone played their favorite characters and battled at the highest level! The Student Council Room was lit every lunch period for an entire week with players competing hard in Super Smash Bros and showing off their skills. All participants fought as well as they could but in the end, the final day brought us the Championship Round with all 7 Team Champions! The lights were bright, the sounds loud - man, this tournament was intense! It all came down to a 1v1… Trey from Team Hui Lokahi versus Caleb from Team Laule’a. 7th vs. 8th Grade. They both fought extremely hard but in the end there could only be one winner and that winner was Trey from Hui Lokahi! Congratulations, Trey, the 2024 Super Smash School Champion!!! Spirit Competition Kick Off 2021! Video
The Highlands Spirit Competition 21-22 kicked off with the teachers over the course of 1 week battled for the top spot on our Nintendo Switch! For the game, Mr. White chose the super fun racing game based on the Pixar movie: Cars 3! 2 teachers from each team raced the Copper Canyon Speedway track and tried their very best to get the fastest to the checkered flag! The competition was furious as the teachers tried to tap into their inner child for video game skill and strategy! Each teacher played once, and the average team time was taken to determine the winners of the games!
Ironically, Team A (Laule'a) - Cars took first place! Congrats to Mr. Esteban and Mr. Zhang for being our Teacher Champions and bringing eternal glory to your team this year!!!

Super Smash Bros Nintendo Switch Tournament 2019
A.. B.. A.. B.. LEFT RIGHT UP DOWN START. The 1st ever Highlands Intermediate video game tournament was amazing. Students who prefer video games over sports had a time to shine in this new concept that allows student to actually play video games in school. Just like our quarterly intramurals, representatives from all teams battled it out in a game of Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo Switch. The crowd that showed up was HUGE and the Student Council room was packed with people who wanted to watch some video games during their lunch break. Everyday, 8 participants from each team would play in a bracket to determine the champion for that team. In the end when all 7 champions were decided, and while all players who participated showed excellency at the game, the Super Smash Bros School Champion was Adrian from Hui Mana’o with an astounding win over all the other champions. That’s not all, however, as our teachers were joined in on the fun. Believe it or not, teachers actually play video games too! We had an amazing victory from our HIS Band Director, Mr. Lim, who showed excellent prowess at the game. As our final days of the tournament began it was clear to see how amazing an experience not only the players had but the spectators as well! We set the groundwork for future video game events in schools. For now, we hope to run a video game tournament every quarter to get the same excitement from 8th graders and new 7th graders and maybe even inspire tournaments like this for other schools. Video games are an area that is growing especially in the younger generation. They have fun playing, so why not incorporate them into student activities and give them a rather new outlet for having fun in school?!? In closing, we'd like to thank our sponsor Mobile Gamer Guys for providing guidance and support in our first ever Super Smash Tournament! Chase, 8th Grade President
