eSport - Super Smash Bros 2025

Q3 esports Super Smash Bros. really was really a smash hit with everyone! All the teams had a great time battling out to win 250 spirit points, $50 GameStop Gift Card, & the Super Smash Belt! Friends, fans and teammates got together every day in the StuCo Room to see all the players try their best and fight hard each and every match! Congratulations to the winners: 7th Grade Champion, Ivan from Team Hui Lokahi and 8th Grade Champ Jaxston from Team Kupono! Let’s give an even BIGGER round of applause for Ivan who eventually won it all and became Q3 eSports School Champion after a most epic battle! They worked their butts off (even with some bruises lol 😜) through the entire championship! Even though times seemed tough throughout the game, they pushed through and came out the big winners in the end! Chloe Sellona, 7th Grade Council

eSport: Super Smash Bros! 2024

Highlands Q3 eSport was a super “smash” hit this year!  7 teams with over a hundred competitors produced 7 champions who all fought for the Super Smash Championship Belt along with a $50 GameStop gift card and 250 spirit points. Everyone played their favorite characters and battled at the highest level!  The Student Council Room was lit every lunch period for an entire week with players competing hard in Super Smash Bros and showing off their skills. All participants fought as well as they could but in the end, the final day brought us the Championship Round with all 7 Team Champions!  The lights were bright, the sounds loud - man, this tournament was intense!  It all came down to a 1v1… Trey from Team Hui Lokahi versus Caleb from Team Laule’a.  7th vs. 8th Grade.  They both fought extremely hard but in the end there could only be one winner and that winner was Trey from Hui Lokahi!  Congratulations, Trey, the 2024 Super Smash School Champion!!!  Rysen Ramiro, Student Government President

eSport: Super Smash Bros 2023

A.. B.. A.. B.. LEFT RIGHT UP DOWN START. The 1st ever Highlands Intermediate video game tournament was amazing. Students who prefer video games over sports had a time to shine in this new concept that allows student to actually play video games in school. Just like our quarterly intramurals, representatives from all teams battled it out in a game of Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo Switch. The crowd that showed up was HUGE and the Student Council room was packed with people who wanted to watch some video games during their lunch break. Everyday, 8 participants from each team would play in a bracket to determine the champion for that team. In the end when all 7 champions were decided, and while all players who participated showed excellency at the game, the Super Smash Bros School Champion was Braeden Redira from Team Hui Ha'aheo!

Q3 eSports: Super Smash Bros.

My experience with the Q3 eSport Super Smash Bros Tournament was epic as it was memorable! Everyone that participated had such a amazing time as the competition was fierce and very competitive. The grand prize ($50 GameStop Gift Card) wasn’t the only reason kids were participating - it was also a very fun experience to represent their teams against all the other great competition! It was so cool watching all the kids battle each other showing off all of their smash bros skills! I found it fascinating finding out who each player mains/plays as, and overall who would win each battle. There were so many close games but only 1 person could emerge victorious and win the grand prize. The shoutcasters also did an awesome job of pumping everyone up and retelling the action as it was
happening… Overall this tournament’s was really fun and overall a huge success!!! Shayze, Athletics Committee

Video Game Challenge 1: Super Smash Bros.

A critical smash attack! Bowser was sent flying toward the corner of the playing field. Mario came running in Bowser's direction and charges up his forward air attack. He lands a critical hit and spikes Bowser off and into the mysterious abyss and oblivion!!! This is a basic description of what was at the Video Game Challenge 1: Super Smash Bros. This tournament was 7 days of fun and action in which every team to participated in. There were 7 preliminary rounds, 1 for each team here at Highlands, that acted like entry tickets to the Champions Round on the last day. If you beat the other participants on your team you would gain the title of ________ Team Champion.  All 7 Team Champions played on the final day to see who would become School Super Smash Champion! To paint a picture for you imagine being in a semi dark classroom. It was great to see all the cheering fans and great game play over the 8 days in the StuCo Room!  After 8 straight days of Super Smash Bros., our School Champion was none other than Kaimi from Team Laule’a... The Video Game Challenge 1 was a unique and entertaining way for so many students and teachers to bond by doing what they love.... smashing each other lol!  Ryder, StuCo Historian
