Highlands Hunger Games 7: "This Ain't No Fairytale!"

This Highlands Hunger Games 7, “This Ain’t No Fairytale,” was the best Hunger Games yet! The students were reaped and posted up on the bulletin boards 2 weeks before the competition.  Students gathered around and fought to see who the “lucky” students that were chosen or “reaped” just like the actual Hunger Games. Students had the opportunity to switch with other willing students from their team in what was called Volunteer Day. When the Tributes List was finalized then the training could begin. Before you knew it, the big day approached quickly…. All of the students were very excited and nervous to see who would be this year’s Highlands Hunger Games Champions! There were Disney-themed walls placed around the battlefield for the Tributes to hide behind. In the center of the field was the Cornucopia that held the weapons and ammo. At the start of each round, students ran towards the Cornucopia in order to grab a weapon, while some stayed back and hid. You could see all the strategy and all the alliances made within just a few seconds - how exciting?!? Students were eliminated for a couple reasons: stepping out of the playing field, getting hit with a bolt or grenade, or getting their flag pulled. Adding to the excitement, parachutes were released into the field of play every few minutes and Tributes could grab them to earn even more spirit points for their team. The last round was the teacher round, the one we were all waiting for! The teachers played for their team and it was the most entertaining round yet! Hunger Games 7 Training Centers

From the 25th - 26th of November, we had our annual Highlands Hunger Games training center on the 25h for the 7th Graders and the 26th for the 8th Graders. These days have been the best of fun, crazy , and hilarious adventures leading to shooting bolts , throwing grenades , and having the best of fun learning new experiences. On these two days Student Council taught all the Tributes the layout of the Hunger Games and what to do when the time comes for battle. As time went on for both days the students learned respect and made alliances to be applied for on the day cometh.  It also brought good memories and lots of “aha” moments of how to load the bolts into the Nerf crossbows and which end to shoot out of lol! Other comical moments came when Tributes had to figure out how to put the velcro vests and flag belts on the right way ;) Now that was a show to watch! To sum up, the Highlands Hunger Games 7 Training Center days were fun learning experience for all and made everyone happy from beginning to end - it was a memory they will never, ever forget!  Brayden, Assembly Committee

Highlands Haunted House 7: Cast & Crew

Lights, Camera, Action!  Highlands Haunted House 7: “The House of Hades” was put together to get the students of Highlands Intermediate to be excited to come to school and to be pumped up for Halloween!  From special effects to handling animatronics to guiding to scaring -- we did it all! Our amazing cast consisted of StuCo members as guides, monsters and even Hades, the main scare. Our crew worked all the special effects and became actors and actresses once it was showtime. The air guns, sound effects, the shooting gallery and monsters were all portrayed and handled by the Student Council, Mr. Nakagawa’s LC class and Mr. Fujii’s SMC class. Big thanks to everyone who helped make HH7 happen! Thanks especially to Mr. Weeks who played a big part in the Haunted House by painting all the breathtaking glow-in-the-dark 3D walls! Lastly, thanks to Mr. White who supervised us throughout the process of creating HH7 and running it.
