Spirit Week 2021: COLTS Pride Day

Can we get a HOO-RAY for Colts Pride Day!? On September 24th, the last day of Highlands Intermediate Spirit Week 2021, it was time for students to show their pride as students of this awesome school! Campus was covered from head to toe in students, faculty, and teachers clad in purple outfits. And, that’s not at all! For this Spirit Week event, Spirit Committee designed and hosted a game of Kahoot to further bring out the school spirit and make students pumped for this exciting school year! Each team in their period 7 got to answer trivia questions about the teachers and staff members of Highlands Intermediate School. How much do you know about your school? Team Koa Kau Lio placed in 4th, Laulima placed in 3rd, Hui Mana’o in 2nd, and finally, Alakai as Fantastic 4 placed 1st! Each team got to win spirit points and celebrate, but whether or not you won, we hope you had fun and learned a bunch!  De’an, Promotions Committee Chair

Spirit Week 2021: Disney Day

Who’s favorite movie is a Disney one? If you’re one of the many, it’s no surprise, since Disney’s products are always so wholesome and enjoyable. And, with our school theme being their favorite twin, Pixar, it was only natural that we accepted the Disney spirit during Spirit Week! On this day, September 23, 2021, students across campus showed up as their favorite disney characters! Everywhere you looked, a new character popped up in your view- it was so fun! To go along with this day, Assembly Committee arranged a magnificent scavenger hunt in the Library Courtyard during lunch! In order to come out on top, students had to work with their teams to solve puzzles and work through the clues they were given! In the end, everyone had so much fun! Spirit Week 2021: Disney Day was a success! Mia, Student Government Vice President

Spirit Week 2021: Villain Day

The spirit of Highlands Intermediate was in full speed by the time Villain Day rolled around on September 22, 2021. After the stunning hero costumes of the day before, students were itching to represent their favorite evil villains! After all, who doesn’t love a good bad-guy? And of course, the occasional mischievous acts are always loved as long as they're in good fun! To match the vibes of villain day, Athletics Committee setup and ran the competitive activity: Clean Your Room! In this fast paced game, students threw newspaper balls every which way to dirty the other team’s ‘homes.’ When all was said and done, the team with the least amount of paper balls in their home turf would win. The entire day was full of excitement and students learned a great lesson: if you have to get rid of trash, just pass it on over to your neighbor! Mia, Student Government Vice President

Spirit Competition Kick Off 2021! Video

The Highlands Spirit Competition 21-22 kicked off with the teachers over the course of 1 week battled for the top spot on our Nintendo Switch! For the game, Mr. White chose the super fun racing game based on the Pixar movie: Cars 3! 2 teachers from each team raced the Copper Canyon Speedway track and tried their very best to get the fastest to the checkered flag! The competition was furious as the teachers tried to tap into their inner child for video game skill and strategy! Each teacher played once, and the average team time was taken to determine the winners of the games!

Ironically, Team A (Laule'a) - Cars took first place! Congrats to Mr. Esteban and Mr. Zhang for being our Teacher Champions and bringing eternal glory to your team this year!!!

Like a phoenix rising from the fire, Highlands Intermediate has emerged from the darkness, bigger and better and raring to go! Our teams have picked their new Pixar identities, this year’s Student Council officers have been elected, our teachers have prepared for class, and us students are waiting anxiously with our bags packed for every new day! Welcome Back to School 2021

The 2020-2021 virtual school year ended and now we are kicking it off with Highlands Intermediate School Year 2021-2022! Every year, our school gets a new theme. If you remember, last year's theme was video games. Can you guess what this year's theme will be? It's Pixar: “To Highlands…and Beyond!”  Last year, our classes were all online. We only got to go to school in-person once a week at the end of the school year. This year, we are all grateful to be back into a full in-person learning environment. Teachers are glad to see students' faces, students are glad to see their friends, and overall, it just feels "normal" again. Highlands Intermediate Student Council was ready to welcome all of the returning 8th grade students and new 7th grade students to our campus. On the first two days of the new school year, Highlands Student Council all got up early and waited by the office parking lot, ready to greet the students on their first day of the school year. We played lots of upbeat music and were doing different cheers to get the students excited to start off their first day of school. Each of the Student Council members put hard work into making a Pixar themed poster to make kids feel welcomed. They all were full with color and were later put up around campus to make kids feel welcomed throughout the year. Marina, Student Government Treasurer
