eSport: Super Smash Bros 2023

A.. B.. A.. B.. LEFT RIGHT UP DOWN START. The 1st ever Highlands Intermediate video game tournament was amazing. Students who prefer video games over sports had a time to shine in this new concept that allows student to actually play video games in school. Just like our quarterly intramurals, representatives from all teams battled it out in a game of Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo Switch. The crowd that showed up was HUGE and the Student Council room was packed with people who wanted to watch some video games during their lunch break. Everyday, 8 participants from each team would play in a bracket to determine the champion for that team. In the end when all 7 champions were decided, and while all players who participated showed excellency at the game, the Super Smash Bros School Champion was Braeden Redira from Team Hui Ha'aheo!

Q3 Student Council Bonding

Spring time is coming around the corner, so what's a better way to celebrate than with spring activities, energizers and water play? Student Council celebrated their Q3 success with activities combining waterplay, energizers, and even a Student Council Kahoot! The event ended with the much anticipated water games and they were a blast! When we mean a blast, we literally mean a blast from several water guns and over 500 water balloons! It was an awesome and amazing way to set off for Spring Break! I'm pretty sure it was an unforgettable moment for every member of the Highlands Student Council, one not to be easily forgotten! Q3 eSports: Super Smash Bros.

My experience with the Q3 eSport Super Smash Bros Tournament was epic as it was memorable! Everyone that participated had such a amazing time as the competition was fierce and very competitive. The grand prize ($50 GameStop Gift Card) wasn’t the only reason kids were participating - it was also a very fun experience to represent their teams against all the other great competition! It was so cool watching all the kids battle each other showing off all of their smash bros skills! I found it fascinating finding out who each player mains/plays as, and overall who would win each battle. There were so many close games but only 1 person could emerge victorious and win the grand prize. The shoutcasters also did an awesome job of pumping everyone up and retelling the action as it was
happening… Overall this tournament’s was really fun and overall a huge success!!! Shayze, Athletics Committee

Q3 Intramural: Soccer Shoot-Out!

Ever wonder who are the best soccer players in school? Well, that’s exactly what our Highlands Intermediate Q3 Intramural: Soccer was for! Sign ups took place via Team Leaders during the first week of March and there was a ton of interest. Teams played by grade level to find out who the 7th Grade Champion and the 8th Grade Champions were.  In the end it came down to Team Alaka’i for the 7th Grade and Team Hui Mana’o for the 8th Grade.  The School Championship Match came down to a tie and we had to go to a shoot out for the first time in school history.  It was so close, but the 8th Grade Champions - Team Hui Mana’o - prevailed in the end. Amazing job to all who participated!!!  Naia, Athletics Committee

Q3 Intramural - Soccer 2019

Q3 Intramural Soccer was a blast! The excitement and tension of each game was amazing and the skill level of the soccer players were great! Everyday at lunch the Highlands Students Council helped setup, run and break down all the soccer action. Every team cheered on their soccer players and enjoyed watching their team play against the other. When it came down to the championship, 8th Grade Champs (Ho’oko) and 7th Grade Champs (Fantastic 4) had such an intense match!  But in the end, Fantastic 4 prevailed and took the title of Q3 Intramural Soccer Champions 2019! Regardless, all the teams played so well and everyone that played made this activity so fun and enjoyable ;) Arisa, Athletics Committee
