Service Fieldtrip: Hui Alaloa 2022

Hui: a group of people united in purpose, Alaloa: a sacred, sometimes spiritual path...Our Hui Alaloa Project brings together Hawaiian cultural practitioners, artists, schools, and residents visions for holistic greenspace. Visions for this demonstration project include community engaged art pieces, plantings that include native, medicinal and food species along a well traveled path along the Pu`uloa shoreline. As a community networking non-profit, Hui o Ho`ohonua is committed to supporting the community vision for this place with the help of a network of urban forestry professionals. StuCo Halloween Bonding Fieldtrip

On the evening of October 3, 2015, the Highlands Intermediate StuCo and some alumni StuCo members met up at Pearl City Highlands Center. Everybody was super stoked for the night that was planned ahead! First up in the to-do list was to visit the Spirit Store and look at all of the costumes and decorations that could be used for our upcoming Highlands Haunted H 4. Let me just tell you -- that store was crazy!! They had costumes, spooky decorations, creepy dolls, masks, and much more! Next up on our list was our annual pilgrimage to the Haunted Plantation in Wahiawa! The council members were broken into small groups as they prepared to enter a house FULL of screams from other people. Inside the haunt you would pass through clowns, ghosts, and demons! We weren’t afraid to admit how scared we were. -- some even said they just closed their eyes and held onto the person in front of them! On the other hand, some people (myself included) were screaming and jumping at every single scare! After the haunted house we got to take a ride on the ghost train, traversing the entire plantation in the dark and with spooky stories. Student Council Halloween Research & Bonding Mission: Nightmare's Live!

Our mission was two-fold: 1.) Meet up with Nightmare's Live! Director, Kevin Okada, and his ace team of haunt builders/special FX/costume/actors in order to make our Highlands Haunted House 3 the best haunt ever... and 2.) See Nightmares Live! on opening night in full effect!  The Highlands Student Council did just that and both events went off beyond expectations!  We cannot thank Mr. Okada and the Nightmare's Live! crew for hosting us and giving us their time and sharing their vast experience and wisdom in the haunting business!  The best part of each night was hearing the REAL ghost stories that went down in Nightmare's Live! throughout the years which gave everyone "chicken skin" and left all screaming and frightened throughout the night.  We will never forget these epic, over-the-top missions and these experiences will no doubt make our haunt even better than we could ever dream of!

Moanalua High School NASC Research Trip

Mahalo to Mr. Pang, Moanalua High School SAC, for hosting our Student Government officers to help us better understand complete the NASC Council of Excellence application and also how to organize and complete the HSSC OSCAR portfolio!  Mr. Pang is the student activities and organization guru and we all benefited so much by this research expedition to our neighboring district.  Full of awe and ideas, we will no doubt accomplish our dual goals of NASC Council of Excellence and completing an HSSC OSCAR (well, we can only hope, anyway ;)!  Regardless, this was the first big step in the right direction...
