Service Fieldtrip: Hui Alaloa 2022

Hui: a group of people united in purpose, Alaloa: a sacred, sometimes spiritual path...Our Hui Alaloa Project brings together Hawaiian cultural practitioners, artists, schools, and residents visions for holistic greenspace. Visions for this demonstration project include community engaged art pieces, plantings that include native, medicinal and food species along a well traveled path along the Pu`uloa shoreline. As a community networking non-profit, Hui o Ho`ohonua is committed to supporting the community vision for this place with the help of a network of urban forestry professionals. Thanksgiving 2020: Favors 4 Furry Friends

Happy Thanksgiving, Turkeys!  Did you hear about all the great Thanksgiving activities from Friday, November 20 to Wednesday, November 26?  I hope you participated in the 8th Grade Council's “Favors 4 Furry Friends” activity.  The 8th Grade Council worked really hard to put together a toy drive for all the dogs and cats at the Hawaiian Humane Society.  You can even make cute little dog or cat bandanas as well ;). What a great way to be kind and thoughtful to our furry friends, especially those that have been given way, lost or forgotten during the Thanksgiving season. When you do something for the community, doesn’t it feel good knowing that you helped somebody/something, especially during this pandemic?  After all the donations were collected, counted and sorted,the 8th Grade Council went to Hawaiian Humane Society on Wednesday December 8th to drop off the donations and they met a nice lady named Annie Mukai.  Ms. Mukai met up with and greeted the 8th Grade Council at the Hawai'i Humane Societyand graciously accepted the donations.  We hope to see everyone soon and stay safe!!!  Delicia, 8th Grade Secretary

“Make-A-Difference” 4 COVID-19

The 2019 - 2020 school year sure took a sudden and unexpected turn for the worst! Yet, even if we were separated, it didn’t stop us from making things just a little more positive ;) This year, our “Make-A-Difference” project was COVID-19 based. Each member of the student council worked on their own individual projects to spread a positive message, help out, or just make things easier on others. Some wrote cards to healthcare workers, sewed face masks, or made websites. All in the effort to make a difference during the pandemic. After our projects were complete, they were shared on the HIS social media to help heal or spread the good vibes. This goes to show that there is no limit on how positive messages can be spread. Even when we aren’t together physically, we can be together through spirit and heart.  Kamryn, SG Secretary

Ko Olina Thanksgiving Outreach 2016

On Saturday, November 21st, the Highlands Student Council went down the street to the Ko Olina Thanksgiving Outreach at Pearl City Community Church.  This annual service project is important to us as we are able to help those less fortunate than us enjoy a proper Thanksgiving meal courtesy of Ko Olina Resorts. It was our job to bring some spirit to the event through cheers and energizers, help serve the meals, and talk story with everyone afterward. This heartwarming experience will no doubt stick with all of us through this special time of year. It was a very moving experience for everyone involved and we're so glad we could participate again this year. Isabella, 7th Grade Council - Palisades Elem.

NASC E-Bulletin Feature

What an honor it is to be featured by the National Association of Student Councils for one our big activities!  The Highlands Intermediate StuCo was featured in the May issue of the NASC E-Bulletin's "Spotlight on Projects Excellence" showcasing our big "Highlands Got Talent!" talent show!  We want to thank all the students of Highlands Intermediate for all your enthusiasm, spirit and energy at all of our events throughout the school year -- we couldn't have done it without you!!!
