Service Project: Pu'uloa Beautification 2026

The Highlands Student Council teamed up with the Pearl City High School Interact Club on Saturday, April 18, 2026, for an incredibly rewarding and impactful community cleanup at Blaisdell Park! Nestled along the historic shores of Pu'uloa (Pearl Harbor), this beautiful coastal park needed some extra care, and our students absolutely delivered. Together, a dedicated wave of student volunteers rolled up their sleeves and worked tirelessly to clear the shoreline and park grounds of litter, microplastics, and debris. By the end of the morning, our hardworking crew had completely transformed the area, filling dozens of trash bags and leaving the community significantly cleaner and more beautiful. 🌎✨ The day was a powerful display of youth leadership, teamwork, and aloha for our environment. To celebrate all that heavy lifting, volunteers wrapped up the day by cooling off and refueling with some well-deserved donuts 🍩 and refreshing ice pops 🍧! Interact Club Pu'uloa Cleanup 2023

Pu'uloa Bike Path near Blaisdell Park is such a wonderful place with beautiful views. Members of the community can walk along the path that overlook the view of Pearl Harbor and beyond. Though it is sad to see, over time the path became covered with trash and many invasive, non-native plants. However, thanks to the Rotary Club of Pearlridge, the Highlands Intermediate Interact Club was able to revisit the path and clean up a good portion of it one Saturday morning. When we arrived we were eager and ready to help! We had our gloves and tools at the ready. We split into two groups. One group was worked to clear all the trash on the beach while everyone else was clearing out the invasive species. In the end, we picked up all the trash in the area and cleared out a huge chunk of invasive plants. It was very hot but those four hours of work were worth it knowing we were able to contribute to the path of a cleaner and better environment! Rica, Student Government Vice-President

 

Pearl City Christmas Parade 2022

“Highlands, do you have spirit?” Oh yes, we do! Pearl City has spirit, how about you?!?” The Highlands Student Council participated in the Pearl City Christmas Parade 2022 for the first time ever! This event was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Pearlridge and also included many other Interact Clubs from other schools as well. All clubs were there to proudly represent their groups with Christmas spirit and cheer! The parade started at Pearl City High School and ended at Pearl City Shopping Center. Throughout the event, we made sure to keep our energy high and and our voices even louder! People young and old lined the roads and were filled with excitement as each parade group passed by. Our cheers echoed throughout the streets of Pearl City and into the surrounding neighborhoods. As we reached the end of the parade, we were surprised that we earned 3rd place for Most Christmas Spirit! Thank you so much to the RCOP for the opportunity to participate in this event. Pu’uloa Bike Path is a beautiful place to spend your mornings. You can walk along the path and look at Pearl Harbor, it's also great to bike along. Though it is a sad sight to see, the path is covered in trash and invasive plants. Thanks to The Rotary Club of Pearlridge the Highlands Student Council they were able to clean up a good portion of it. As a result a natural spring was found amongst the weeds and trash! The spring eventually became a small stream that led into Pearl Harbor. It was honestly incredible to be able to know that this natural spring was right there under all the trash and plants. When we got there we were split into groups, some people were shoveling sand and the rest were helping with collecting trash and cutting and collecting the plants. It was a gorgeous day to be out helping the community, even though it got a bit hot it was really worth it. We planned to go back the next quarter and help out more! We hope that one day the path can become a better and cleaner environment for people and animals!

Pull out your cameras and get ready to cheer…please welcome, the Highlands Intermediate Interact Club! Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pearlridge, we finally have our very own Interact Club! The Rotary Club of Hawaii has helped create awesome Interact Clubs all across the island for one purpose: to better our community! The Interact Club strives to support the heartwarming society of our islands through service projects, fundraisers, and all around fun activities that make everyone feel welcome! And on April ___, the president of the Rotary Club and a representative made their way down to our school to present us with our official certificate of organization, and kick start our first project with them! I assure you, these thank you posters to the healthcare workers of Pali Momi are just the beginning to a year of great service projects and contributions to our community!
