Winter Dance 2022: Yule Ball

After two years of social distancing and masks, we get to fully show off our Christmas Spirit with the Winter Dance 2022 “Yule Ball”! Students dressed to impress, many with holiday cheer vibrating all around them. Students crowded the dance floor dancing to all the hits while others ran in line to take pictures with their friends at the photo booth! The Yule Arcade was bursting with excitement as friends competed against friends to find out who was best at Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart and Madden (our 3 eSports)! Snacks and sweets from our teacher vendors sold out in minutes… Stuco selling Dippin’ Dots, Laule’a selling Kona Ice, Hui’ Manao selling Papa John’s pizza, SMC selling canned juice, EL club selling water, Aloha Aina selling musubis, and Koa Kau Lio selling Nutella sticks and gummy bears! Wizards and witches crafted their own wands at Ollivander’s Wand Shoppe while others took their chances at Professor Trelawney’s Wheel of Fortune. Student Council Bonding Q2: Christmas 2022

Happiness and cheer were spread around the StuCo Room this holiday season, with our Q2 Student Council Bonding: Christmas 2022! On December 14th, the StuCo Room was filled with holiday inflatables, ornaments, and most importantly, Christmas Spirit! With everyone dressed up in their ugly sweaters, this Christmas bonding was bound to be memorable ;) Hosted by Student Government, this quarter's bonding started with some funny elf name introductions, leading into a memorable Secret Santa, and continued on with competitive activities such as gingerbread house making, and an “Unwrap The Ball!” game. Of course, a bonding wouldn't be complete without food! We had food such as chicken katsu and rice from L&L, along with some drinks. Q2 Student Council Bonding: Christmas 2022 was exactly what we all needed… As Andy Williams once said "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" Merry Christmas to all! Christmas Spirit Week 2022

As Christmas was just around the corner, many students and even teachers celebrated the season by participating in Christmas Spirit Week 2022! Participating gave everyone the opportunity to show our school spirit and pride and they can even earn spirit points for their team in the process. This winter themed Spirit Week began Monday, 12/12 - Friday, 12/16. Monday kicked it all off with countless students and teachers wearing pajamas to stay warm in this winter weather! Ho, ho, ho! Then it was Tuesday and Christmas Character Day! On this exciting, fun day, many dressed up as their favorite Christmas character from movies and/or books. There were Santas, Rudolphs and Grinches everywhere! Fleece Navidad! Get it?... Everyone searched their closets on Wednesday because it’s Ugly Sweater Day! Thursday was Winter Wonderland and all across the campus it was a whiteout! And to end it all, Friday came around and it was Winter Formal Day for the highly-anticipated Winter Dance 2022: “ Yule Ball!” The whole campus came dressed to impress! Staffulty Christmas Teacher Appreciation Breakfast 2022

Christmas spirit is in the air along with a deep appreciation for our teachers and staff this holiday season! We wanted to show our excellent staffulty how greatly appreciated and thankful we are for all of the hard work they put in to make our school great! Big thanks goes out to our wonderful sponsors - McDonalds and Starbucks of Pearl City - for the plentiful and delicious pancakes, sausages, coffee, fruit, and more that were laid out for all on a chilly morning on December 9th. As the teachers entered the Cafeteria, they were greeted with a magical visit from our very own student Santa at the Christmas Photo Booth along with Christmas themed games, such as spin the wheel, and other small activities and prizes. Everyone absolutely enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and used the event to socialize with one another. As teachers ate, students provided entertainment such as playing the piano and singing Christmas Carols. It’s safe to say that teachers and staff felt greatly appreciated and happy after our memorable Christmas Staffulty Appreciation Breakfast 2022!  Maria, Student Government President

Pearl City Christmas Parade 2022

“Highlands, do you have spirit?” Oh yes, we do! Pearl City has spirit, how about you?!?” The Highlands Student Council participated in the Pearl City Christmas Parade 2022 for the first time ever! This event was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Pearlridge and also included many other Interact Clubs from other schools as well. All clubs were there to proudly represent their groups with Christmas spirit and cheer! The parade started at Pearl City High School and ended at Pearl City Shopping Center. Throughout the event, we made sure to keep our energy high and and our voices even louder! People young and old lined the roads and were filled with excitement as each parade group passed by. Our cheers echoed throughout the streets of Pearl City and into the surrounding neighborhoods. As we reached the end of the parade, we were surprised that we earned 3rd place for Most Christmas Spirit! Thank you so much to the RCOP for the opportunity to participate in this event. 6th Grade Orientation 2022

At the 6th Grade Orientation 2022, 6th graders from 8 different elementary schools in the Pearl City District were given a warm welcome to Highlands Intermediate! This annual event took place over 2 days. Our guests were given a taste of what the middle school experience is truly like. They were given live performances, announcements, and videos from our elective students and teachers. Those electives include Arts and Crafts, Band, Chorus, Media, STEM, and Ukulele. The day continued with a tour around campus from our expert guides - us ;).  Lastly, we hosted a Q&A session headed up by the Highlands Student Council. Our incoming 7th graders had so many amazing questions!  After this event, we have no doubt that this fun and meaningful experiencewill help the Class of 2029 throughout their entire middle school journey!  Rica Marie, SG Vice-President
