The 8th Grade Walk 2025

On Thursday, May 29th, 2025 the mighty Class of 2029 had their final walk around campus as a Highlands Intermediate 8th Grader. Some say that this is a bittersweet moment, but to your 8th Grade Class Council, we saw it as an unforgettable and significant moment in our lives. We got the chance to celebrate our growth and also reflect on our time in middle school as we walked past our old classrooms and hangout spots. The 7th Graders, teachers, staff and admin cheered for us as we walked through the hallways one last time. The 8th Grade Walk is a Highlands tradition started a long time ago and it still made our eyes water and voices tremble as we took our final steps around our beloved campus. 8th Grade Walk 2024

May 30th, 2024 was the last day of the 23-24 school year and per Highlands tradition, we kicked the big day off with the annual 8th Grade Walk. Taking a trip down memory lane, the 8th graders had their last walk around the campus as the 7th graders were scattered in every walkway and sidewalk to celebrate the 8th graders’ big achievement - completing middle school and becoming a high schooler! A few days before, all the 7th Grade Homerooms made farewell banners, posters, chalk drawings, and paper cranes to hang in the hallway to give the 8th Graders the confidence as they begin their new journey. It was like a big parade full of smiles, tears - some happy, some sad - as it was their time on campus, remembering all their teachers, friends, and all the amazing memories they’ve made at Highlands Intermediate ;)  Anya Griffin, 8th Grade Secretary

The 8th Grade Walk 2023

What a way to end off the most wonderful, incredible, and fantastic school year?!? The Highlands Student Council and Assembly Committee put together the annual 8th Grade Walk with the help of all 7th Grade Homerooms and all teachers and staff members. The 8th Grade Walk was an amazing way for the entire school to come together to celebrate all of their accomplishments and to empower them to move on into high school. As it was, the Class of 2027's last experience here at Highlands Intermediate was a time of immense happiness, but also sadness, yet filled with gratitude for all the events they have got to experience as students of this amazing school! It was truly bittersweet… The 8th Grade Walk all in all was an experience none of us will never ever forget and it was an unbelievable way to end off our time here as students of our beloved Highlands Intermediate School. During the walk, 7th grades and teacher wave signs and cheer on 8th grades as they leave the old behind and welcome the new with this last campus memory.  Kamaile, 8th Grade Class President

8th Grade Walk 2018

The last day of the 2017-18 school year was certainly a very bittersweet for all of the students at Highlands Intermediate. Our Farewell Activities such as the Farewell Assembly and the Highlands Ho'olaule'a brought the gravity of the situation upon us all, that this was indeed our final day as either an 8th Grader or a 7th Grader at Highlands Intermediate. But what surely will be remembered the most to the 8th Graders is the 8th Grade Walk! Held on the last day of school, May 31st, 2018, the 8th Graders all came together at the basketball courts to have one final walk around the campus. After a couple of speeches from our very own student council members, Jenna and Olivia, and Mr. White, the Highlands Student Council linked their arms together, side by side to lead the walk in our last hours of being a middle schooler. Passing A Building beside Mr. Mumaw's room and Mr. Arios’, the hall of B Building, and finally the main hallway where students were greeted with their favorite teachers and security guards giving out high fives and lollipops. The 8th Grade Walk finally ended by rounding back to the gym with the 7th Graders right outside the gym to congratulate and cheer on the class of 2022!!! The 8th Graders reminisced about all the memories that were made over the 2 years in Highlands Intermediate, even bringing many students to tears... This year was certainly one to remember and will never be forgotten, just like Ohana. "Ohana means family, and family means no one gets left behind or forgotten..."  Amaia, 8th Grade Secretary
