6th Grade Orientation 2025

Highlands Intermediate School recently hosted a seventh-grade orientation for the eight elementary schools in the Pearl City district. The event was designed to help incoming students feel comfortable and confident as they prepare to transition to their new campus. During the orientation, students toured the campus to familiarize themselves with the layout and facilities, while also getting the chance to ask questions about middle school life. This welcoming experience played an important role in ensuring our future students feel prepared and excited for the journey ahead. Alea Atud, 8th Grade Secretary

Welcome Back to School 2025

Walking onto campus for a new school year brings a mix of emotions, it is completely normal to feel anxious about new schedules, nervous to talk to new people, and intimidated by higher expectations. To help ease those first-day jitters, the Highlands Student Council kicked off the 2025–2026 school year early in the front parking lot, bringing our DreamWorks theme, "Living the Dream," to life with upbeat music, welcoming posters, and positive energy to make day one memorable. This morning's welcome set the stage for 7th Grade Orientation, a full day of activities where our newest Colts got familiar with the campus, met our staff, and learned what it means to lead as a Colt. The event was a great way for our student government to collaborate, bond as a team, and set a supportive tone for the entire student body. Get ready for an incredible year ahead, Highlands, it will go by faster than you know it, and time flies when you're having fun. Work hard, stay positive, and let's keep living the dream! — Solomon Young, 8th Grade Class President

6th Grade Orientation 2024

“Hey, Hey you! Welcome to HIS!” was how the incoming 7th Graders for the 25-26 sy were welcomed to Highlands Intermediate with much aloha and opened arms by all of our 7th & 8th Grade Ambassadors, Student Council, Band, Chorus, Ukulele Classes and our awesome teachers and staff members! The 6th Graders from all 8 Pearl City elementary schools were led through different activities to show what kind of elective classes Highlands has to offer and just about everything else about the school. Their knowledge grew more and more as they learned so many more things about Highlands to help them prepare for their upcoming 7th Grade year! They had so much fun interacting with the Highlands Intermediate guides as well as walking through the whole campus to get a better feel of their future school. We hope that with this orientation the 6th graders will be less nervous and instead more excited about their new upcoming year at Highlands Intermediate School!  Eddi Nakamoto , Assembly Committee

6th Grade Orientation 2023

As the year comes to an end, that means it’s time for 6th Grade Orientation!  This is the day where some of our 8th Grader leaders are asked to give the incoming 7th Graders (currently 6th Grade) a tour of the school with lots of helpful information to help them next school year. Our guests were amazing and they made sure to ask lots of questions all through the day. We wanted this orientation to help our incoming students get a good feel for the school and to also be comfortable with their new “home.”  Aeveen Zee Patricio, Assembly Committee

6th Grade Orientation 2022

At the 6th Grade Orientation 2022, 6th graders from 8 different elementary schools in the Pearl City District were given a warm welcome to Highlands Intermediate! This annual event took place over 2 days. Our guests were given a taste of what the middle school experience is truly like. They were given live performances, announcements, and videos from our elective students and teachers. Those electives include Arts and Crafts, Band, Chorus, Media, STEM, and Ukulele. The day continued with a tour around campus from our expert guides - us ;).  Lastly, we hosted a Q&A session headed up by the Highlands Student Council. Our incoming 7th graders had so many amazing questions!  After this event, we have no doubt that this fun and meaningful experiencewill help the Class of 2029 throughout their entire middle school journey!  Rica Marie, SG Vice-President
