PCHES Reading Buddies 2023 Finale

Awwww, the time had finally come... it was finally the beginning of the end of the school year.  And that means it's PCHES Reading Buddies Finale time, our final meeting with our little reading partners.   This event started off with a bang everyone was excited and eager to explore, read and participate in some fun energizers and icebreakers!  Time went by so quickly and before everyone knew it the time came for the final, final activity together.... With lots of tears and hugs, all the reading buddies - both big and small - took one final photo together and said goodbye one final time.  Gifts were also exchanged but it's the lifelong memories that were truly special and beyond measure ;). PCHES Reading Buddies 2023

The Highlands Student Council was able to revive a collaboration with our neighbor elementary school, Pearl City Highlands Elementary, after 3 long years of COVID lockdown.  Our "big buddies" made lesson plans every Friday to read books and play games with the PCHES 2nd Graders. Student Council had so much fun with their little buddies every single week and it got harder to say goodbye to them every time we went....  Sophia, 8th Grade Secretary

PCHES Reading Buddies 2020

Energizers, ice breakers, and reading time - who wouldn’t love that?!?  The Highlands Student Council had the opportunity to go down to PCHES (Pearl City Highlands Elementary School) to read books and do some fun activities with all the second grade classrooms. Besides reading, we also had fun facilitating icebreakers and group energizers that we learned in Mr. White’s Leadership Class and all of our leadership trainings throughout the year!  We also taught them lots of Attention Getters like “Hey, hey, hey - listen up, listen up!”  The most memorable part of PCHES Reading Buddies was getting to see all the kids faces get so happy upon seeing us… that is, until we had to say our goodbyes until next time ;)  Avrine, Athletics Committee

PCHES Reading Buddies 2017

Who misses bedtime stories and all those tales of knights and dragons, Very Hungry Caterpillars and Little Bears, and who could ever forget Green Eggs and Ham?!? Those were the best, right?!? The Highlands Intermediate Student Council wanted recreate that experience with our little buddies from Pearl City Highlands Elementary School right next door. It’s PCHES Reading Buddies time and we all got to bond, run small group icebreakers, large group energizers and read to all 4 kindergarten classes over a span of 5 weeks!! It was so much fun seeing the kids play and also ask questions about the books we were reading. The only thing we heard from the all Student Council members was, “I want to go back,... I can’t wait for next week!” Doing the PCHES Reading Buddies service project helped our Student Council achieve the GLO’s by becoming better Community Contributors and Effective Communicators. This was an awesome way to kick off the 4th Quarter and leave a positive influence for the next generation!! Errol, 8th Grade President

6th Grade Orientation

Well it's that time of year and we are halfway through the quarter already! Now it's time to introduce the 6th graders to new school next year, Highlands Intermediate .  7th Grade Orientation took place over 2 days for the 8 Highlands feeder schools . They eager and excited students got to learn about our different classes, took a tour around the school campus, and got to learn about the fun student activities that Highlands has to offer! They even got to ask questions to our own Student Council and teachers during the final Q&A segment. We can’t wait to see all these upcoming 7th graders on our first day back of the 2016-2017 school year!  Laura, Dance Committee Chair
