Lunch Count Spirit Competition

Hey you! Yeah, you! Were you there at our cafeteria to participate in the Lunch Count Spirit Competition that took place over 4 weeks starting on August 24 th and ending on Tuesday September 14th?!? This competition was worth up to 400 spirit points for your team! The more people eating at recess and at lunch, the more points each team got! Thanks to this lunch count, more students at Highlands Intermediate are eating more frequently at recess and lunch! We also drew the names of 5 students who at during Breakfast to win awesome Jamba Juice gift cards every week of the competition! The student council was so amazed by the outcome of how much people ate for the lunch count spirit competition, and we look forward to doing it all over again next year! Sarah, 8th Grade Secretary

"Christmas Town" Xmas Dance 2014

Snowflake Shout-Out Booth, Santa's Photo Booth, Takeshi the Magician, Video DJ, and so much more kept every student entertained during this year's "Christmas Town" Xmas Dance 2014!  Jack and Sally from Disney's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" help turn the Makai end of the Gym into "Halloween Town" and the Mauka end into "Christmas Town."  The contrasts could also be seen in the NBC wreaths and garland decorating the Ewa and Diamond Head walls.  The dance was action-packed, people crowded the dance floor, people socialized with their friends in the bleachers.  If dancing wasn't your thing, you could go outside and enjoy all the great activities and yummy concessions...our favorite being, the Slushie Truck, of course!  We couldn't think of a better way to say goodbye to the first semester and 2014 than this...see you all in 2015!!!  Luke -- Athletics Committee Co-Chairperson

 

 

 

6th Grade Orientation

Role call!  Manana...Pearl City...Kanoelani...Lehua...Palisades...Waiau...Pearl City Highlands...Momilani!  Nearly 500 incoming 7th graders poured into Highlands Intermediate over 2 days for the annual 6th Grade Orientation.  We welcomed them amazing performances from our very own Highlands Symphonic Band, Ukulele Class, Highlands Chorus!  The highlight of the event was the ever-popular campus tour where students got a real taste of real Highlands life: the buildings, the teachers, the staff members, and especially the hills (yes, get used to the hike ;).  The 6th Graders fears and apprehensions were assuaged with the last segment of the Orientation -- the Q&A headed up by our very own Highlands Student Council.  After this experience, we have no doubt the class of 2022 will be absolutely prepared for their first day of school as a Highlands Intermediate Colt next school year!

Highlands Hunger Games 2: Mockingjay

Look out Katniss and Peeta -- you've got some new competition!  Thats right... The Hunger Games returned to Pearl City for Highlands Hunger Games 2: The Mockingjay!  The biggest, most-anticipated event of the school year pits 5 girls and 5 boys from each 'District' were reaped the week before to much excitement across campus.  The goal is simple -- make alliances, hunt, survive, evade, eliminate each other during the 5 minute round.  The lone survivor(s) were crowned Round Champion and won 100 spirit points for their District.   Before the start of the Games this year we had stunning performances from Jade Whitehead, Brandon, and Hyper 808 that whipped the crowd into a frenzy!  President Snow presided over the Parade of Tributes and also served as Game Master.  During the 5 Rounds, Tributes put their skills to the test using and evading with the four weapons this year: crossbows, bows and arrows, slingshot and grenades.  Also new this year were the Parachutes launched into the Arena at 30 second intervals by Sponsors across Panem.  Each Parachute secured scored a Tribute's District 25 spirit points!  Winning the round won them 100 spirit points!  Some Tributes got quickly eliminated by rushing the Cornucopia at the start of the Round, while others hid away and waited patiently as the other Tributes eliminated themselves in the ensuing melee.  By now you must be wondering, "WHO WON THE HUNGER GAMES?"  Well, I'm happy to announce that the winning district is none other than District 3 -- Team Na Koa!  We simply can't wait until The Hunger Games 3 and all the excitement and glory that will be won!

Ko 'Olina Thanksgiving Outreach

The Ko Olina Thanksgiving Outreach was special in many ways not only for the Highlands Student Council, but also for the elderly, children, and awesome families that showed up at this amazing annual event!  This event was truly meaningful bonding experience for all that were present and we were all rewarded with a yummy early Thanksgiving meal from event sponsor, Ko Olina Resort!  The Highlands Student Council helped with greeting all the guest as they arrived, with games, and more importantly they got to sit down, talk story, and really get to know all the special guests before the food was served.  As the mingling and entertainment would down, the Student Council kids got to serve all of our special guests a meal they wouldn't forget.  It was with heavy heart that we said our goodbyes and we'll see each other again next year...

Highlands Canned Food Drive 2014

2014 Highlands Canned Food Drive was a huge success thanks to all the students, teachers and staff members who donated for such a great cause.  A grand total of 1,828 canned goods was collected for Hawaii’s hungry and less-fortunate this year!

Highlands Best Dance Crew 2014

Screaming and cheering,  you could hear the packed crowd in the Cafeteria at the total other end of the school!  If you did not attend Highlands Best Dance Crew '14, you missed a lot of fun!  There were two awesome crews who preformed and they both performed flawlessly.  The crews were Hyper808 and Wild Ones.  The Wild Ones routine was awesome as they performed to "Animals" by Adam Levine.  The crowd went wild after they preformed and the entire cafeteria was cheering!  Next up were Hyper808 who stole the hearts of the audiences with their professional, polished routine!  Near the end of the Hyper808 performance the crowd could only stare in awe and when it was over, cheering so loud you thought your ear drums would burst!  They were so in sync that you would think they were triplets separated at birth!  Can you believe that Hyper808 chreographed the entire routine themselves? Simply amazing!

Highlands Haunted House 3: Ghost Adventures!

Picture this, your locked in a dark room filled with unknown shadows and creatures lurking in every corner. Your only light it from the black lights as they shine on brilliantly scary graffiti artwork on the walls. Even the slightest jump will make you scream for dear life. That was this year's haunted house, Highlands Intermediate Haunted House 3 Ghost Adventures. Students got together with a group of friends were huddled around a smartphone trying to solve the mystery of 2 boys who went missng the metal shop. The blips on the phone's radar went off if some sort of paranormal activity went on. And words would pop up as ACTUAL ghosts tried to communicate. The experience was epic. So while one student tries to focus on the mystery task at hand, the other three friends would be disoriented as they tour the haunted house.  In the first hallway as you enter the haunted house on the left side, trapped in cages were two shadows walking and watching as if they were lionesses ready to pounce on their prey. As you turn a corner there would be a single shadow, catching the right moment to make every person in the hallway scream and run! And right behind the curtain were the missing boys themselves! Both boys were dead but when you enter they would spring to life. They would warn you to turn back, or save yourself fir the group does not know what is up ahead. Soon they group would be greeted by several grudges and shadows. Finally at the last room, chains are dangling from the ceiling and grudges would be there waiting. And before you know it one grudge flies into the air as the group of friends run to safety on the outside of the house.  Overall the haunted house was brilliantly done and scared many. So it leaves us with one question, what really happened to the two missing boys?
